Mab's HAED

This is called Dizzy Heights by Kristin Mills. The finished chart will be 16 W X 11-1/8 H.
I have about 60 of the DMC floss colors, contributed by my mom.  (I dug through her big bag O' floss and pilfered about 50 or so.)
I need 86 total.  I am heading to Pat Cataan's today and hopefully they'll have fabrics to sample so I can pick for certain which one I wish to get.

Fellow stitchers gave me some great advice on the fabric.  I just fear buying online without having a rough idea which one I want.  I do like the Opalescent fabric.  If all else fails I'll order some of that and just pray it's right lol.

This is my first huge chart and my first HAED too.  It's a bit daunting.  I think what I dread the most is my girls asking for one for their room too. ;)

    I love this design for two reasons, purples/lilac/mauve is my favourite colours and I love dragons. I have stitched lots of dragons over the years.
    Good luck with purchasing your fabric and I look forward to seeing your progress on it.

    The design is beautiful. But it looks like it is a full stitch so why waste the beautiful opalescent fabric on this where once it is framed, you will not see the sparkly anyway. Just get plain white or off white and save the sparklies for ones where you see fabric around it. JMHO but that is what I did with my Mystic Stitch since it is full coverage. I do look forward to seeing your progress. I love purple and dragons!!

      You are right. I was thinking of how to border it when finishing it. There are so many other options for that that I really should just stitch it on plain fabric. Thank you for helping me think straight (it's a rare thing around here) ;).

    The HAED I am doing is my first very large pattern too. I am doing "Life's Little Tangles". You will be using fewer thread colors than me, but I am trying not to look at it as the total number of thread colors I am using...I want to try and tackle this a page at a time. I have been reading over the past few years as a member about how others have tackled these charts and have concluded that it would be best if I thought of this a page at a time instead of everything at once. I have read that some stitchers even consider each page a finish instead of waiting for completion of the project to call it a finish...this way, I will have something like 25 finishes when this project is done, done.

      Wonderful outlook. I'll have to keep that in mind while doing mine. I've been thinking of it and it is a bit scary.

    This is such a cute pattern Mab! I agree with Nancy; plain fabric seems like the best choice as the whole thing is going to be covered anyway and sparkly cost so much more. Can't wait to see your progress!

      Thanks Shaunterria! I did end up getting the plain fabric. I was just over excited and drawn to the sparkles lol.

    Cute chart! I also celebrate each page as a finish :) To help keep from being overwhelmed by the number of pages in a chart I only keep one page out at a time and the rest are kept in a notebook so they don't get lost or messed up.

    All you have to remember is that they are done just like any other chart "one stitch at a time".
