SNOW LEOPARD:  1700 STITCHES -- TO FROG?

I have stitched at least one-third of the first page of this chart.  It has all been black, and is now getting some deep grape color added.  However, since the first 10x10 square, I don't like that you can see a little bit of white through all the black squares.  I have been on this blog, on the HAED bulleting board and blog, looked at Google Images at stitched HAEDs and I see a lot of this in many charts.  But it bugs me -- however, I have just kept on stitching.  Finally today, I decided to do one 10x10 with three strands of floss, instead of the two I have been using.  WOW, that made all the difference in the world, and is how I wanted it to look, so I have to do it this way.  I tried to go over the existing stitching with one strand, but it is too hard to see where the needle goes in all that tread that is the same color, sooooooooooooo I have started frogging every stitch that I had done in these past two weeks and will be starting all over again.  Don't know whether this chart is cursed or I am the one cursed, but this little cute cuddly leopard and I have been off to a very rough start.  This will be my fourth start.    But, I am committed and sticking to it.  Just hope I have enough years left to get this one done.  It hasn't proven very efficient yet, but I still have hope.

Thanks for listening and sharing my pain.

  1. Edie, Before you frog it all, take it and place it about 30 feet away and still see if you have a problem with the color showing through. You may find if you decide to go with the three strands of floss, that it may get bulky after a while and then you won't like that either. The girls at my LNS have stated to look at it from 30 ft away as that is about how far away you would be if you have it hanging on a wall and you are looking at it normally. I had felt the same way about my Mystic Stitch and had started it with 2 threads on 25 ct over 1 but it was too bulky and now I am restarting it as 1 over 1 and it looks fine.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation; I will step back and see if I can live with it. It is on 28 count over 2, and I never use 3 threads, but this one is really bothering me.

  2. I agree with Nancy. You have to look at it from a distance. However, if you still feel that it has too much white shining through, you better frog now and not two weeks from now. I do mine with twoo threads over a 22 count, and I don't see lots of white shining through (as of now that is:-)). Anyway,I'm sorry this is happening, and I hope you'll get everything alright again soon.

oh my that is alot to have to frog out. Look at it from a distance & see if it looks alright. But I know if it was me & it bothered me that bad. I would probably rip it too. I am the only one who can see my mistakes in my stitching though.

  4. Don't worry about being efficient - HAEDs are supposed to take a long time :) Don't give up! I am looking forward to following your progress and seeing your beautiful finish.

  5. I got the first 10 stitches done on 25 1 over 1 with 2 strands. Even then I could tell it was too bulky. I took it out and redid it with 1 strand. Even with a little white showing through I liked it much better. I held it up and I have to say when I stepped back I couldn't see where the white was. You are also looking at it straight on. Try holding it at a bit of an angle too. It's rare to see a picture at home by looking straight at it. Usually you are at a bit of an angle and it will make a huge difference.

    1. Thanks for all for the suggestions; I will keep playing around with it for a day or two to see which way I will go. I know it is a long-term project, but I do want it to be something I am proud of when I have it completed.
